The first DVD is 50 Minutes from A&E's Biography "Queen of the Air."
The second DVD is 60 minutes narrated by Kathy Bates "The Price of Courage" (PBS)
The third DVD is "EXPEDITION AMELIA EARHART" from 2019 NATGEO, 90 minutes (National Geographic)
The fourth DVD features 53 minutes of unedited newsreel footage from the 1930's.
The 1st DVD (A&E) - There's good
information on her childhood, including several clips from a 1987
interview with her sister, and how her somewhat troubled family life
helped make her the rebel she became. Accounts of her early flying
days, perhaps inspired by her World War I nursing duties taking care of
war pilots in Toronto, are especially interesting, as we learn that
there were other talented female fliers pursuing their own dreams at the
same time. Elinor Smith, one of those pilots who is interviewed here,
is an incredibly engaging woman I would like to know more about. The
documentary then recounts some of Earhart's more important milestones,
starting with her first flight across the Atlantic - this flight aboard
the Freedom Flight made her famous and brought her together with G.P.
Putnam for the first time, but she really didn't do anything on the
journey except take care of the log while two men flew and navigated.
The 2nd DVD (PBS) - In this American Experience production, the handful of people who
remember her confirm that she had been suffering much mental and
physical illness, and had been advised not to take on such a massive
project. Also her marriage was breaking down, Putnam holding her to a
punishing work-schedule, lucrative though it was, while one commentator
said she detected "none of the warmth you expect in a happy marriage".
The 3rd DVD (National Geographic) Ocean explorer Robert Ballard, discoverer of the Titanic, is setting out to search for Amelia Earhart’s airplane. Robert Ballard sits behind the control desk of the E/V Nautilus, his 64-meter research ship. It’s just after sundown in early August and they’re docked near Nikumaroro, a tiny island in the South Pacific halfway between New Guinea and Hawaii. The smallest piece of debris could break open one of the greatest mysteries of our lifetime. It could belong to the plane Amelia Earhart was flying when she disappeared without a trace in 1937.
The 4th DVD (News reel) - has 53 minutes of actual newsreel footage of Amelia's interviews and parades.
