This is an automatic center stamp that creates a dimple in a workpiece. It has the same function as an ordinary centre stamp, but without a hammer. When pressed against the workpiece, it stores energy in a spring and finally releases it as a pulse that drives the stamp and creates the dimple. The impulse emitted to the tip of the stamp is quite repeatable, so even impressions can be made.
