Q: how do i jet my carbs?
but here is my standard jetting reply:
it really depends on a lot of factors,
and i have no way of knowing what elevation you are at,
and exhaust setup you are running.
(the two most important factors)
As a general rule of thumb for jetting for velocity stacks,
most people bump the main jets up 1 to 2 sizes above the stock jetting.
In SOME cases, if the bike has STOCK mufflers,
we can get away with just an idle mixture adjustment, maybe a needle adjustment,
and a good carb synchronization, and it runs fine.
You would most likely go up more sizes for straight/open pipes or other custom exhaust system.
But the issue is that individual bikes are just too different to offer blanket advice for.
The types of muffler (or lack of a muffler), and header setup, your altitude, different cams,
big bore kits, state of engine wear, and tune,... they're all factors that change jetting specs.
For example, On my XS1100 with STOCK exhaust, here in CA at about 1000 ft above sea level,
i did NOT have to rejet, (chage jet sizes)~ we just adjusted the carbs-
idle mixture adjustment, possible needle adjustment, and finally a good carb synch (synchronization)
But a bike with drag pipes or 4:1 is going to be very different!!!!
Of course, proper jetting with a dyno tuner is going to yield the best results.
So, the simplest thing to do after installing, and test riding the bike,
is start out 1 to 2 sizes above stock, and experiment from there.
It is also recommended to check out the bike forums related to your model,
to see what other guys with similar bikes & setups are running theirs at.
