The design is closely based on the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad Co. Standard Pile Trestle Plans for Narrow Gauge Lines (Adopted Feb. 1907). A trestle is an important part of any railroad and is used by virtually every line in the world. This 48’ long Pile Trestle will work in a wide variety of applications, either on a layout or as part of a diorama, whenever you need your trains to step gracefully over small ravines, hills or whatever depression you may want to cross. This Pile Trestle can be added to an existing layout by simply adding a small gully or ravine, thus providing some additional items for your visitors to look at. The actual dimensions are 48 ft long x 10.0 ft wide. The height will depend on which Bent you decide to use. Bent Templates are provided to achieve a 7 ft, 10 ft or 14 ft tall trestle (as measured from the ground to the top of the ties). This allows the builder to semi-custom build the trestle bents to their unique location.
NOTE: Although this is for Narrow Gauge Lines, if the line saw large and heavy Narrow-Gauge engines like K37’s (engine weights of 92 tons), they would build the Standard Gauge version of the Trestle.
Kit Dimensions (approximate): On3/30 Scale: 12.0” long.
The kit features precision-cut basswood scale dimensional lumber by Kappler Mill & Lumber Company, detailed Build Instructions and Templates for assembling/weathering the Trestle. The Kit includes Templates and material to build a complete Trestle with ties (including two Abutments and two Bents). The Trestle Ties are 10’ long and the kit includes many Nut/Bolt/Washer castings.
