🔧 Blending Tips for Spray Painting a Car (Using Aerosol Cans)

1. Prep the Surface Thoroughly

Clean the area with wax and grease remover.
Sand the area around the damage (usually 800–1200 grit) to feather the edges into the existing paint.
Extend sanding 8–10 inches beyond the repair to create a smooth surface for blending.

2. Mask Off the Area Strategically

Use soft masking techniques: instead of sharp lines, back-tape the edges and use masking paper or film that allows for a gentle transition.
Avoid hard tape lines at the edge of the blend area.

3. Apply the Color in Light, Even Coats

Shake the can thoroughly—at least 2 minutes—before spraying.
Hold the can about 6–8 inches from the surface.
Use light, overlapping coats (50% overlap is ideal).
Start spraying just before the panel and release after passing over, keeping a steady, side-to-side motion.
