The curvimeter (aka map measurer or opisometer) is an instrument used for measuring curved lines. It can calculate the distance between points on a map more precisely than a ruler or a compass can. The mechanism has a measuring wheel, a clock face and a hand. As you run the curvimeter along the curved line you’re measuring; the hand moves around the clock face, which is marked in measuring units (centimetres, inches, etc.). All you need to do is check the map scale and multiply your data by the denominator on the scale.
