Apart from its antioxidant properties, Ascorbic Acid (bioactive Vitamin C) has multiple actions: It improves skin texture and tone, reduces hyperpigmentation, prevents and restricts fine lines and spots.
Human body cannot produce Vitamin C from glucose, as it does not have the appropriate enzyme for this reaction.
As a consequence, food remains the only source of Vitamin C for humans.
Unfortunately, oral ingestion of Vitamin C cannot transfer an adequate quantity of ascorbic acid to the skin.
Therefore, applying Vitamin C to the skin is the most effective method of replacement. For this reason, Vitamin C should be applied topically.
